The Deacon Ministry Deacons likewise must be serious, not double-tongued, not indulging in much wine,
not greedy for money; 9 they must hold fast to the mystery of the faith with a clear
conscience. 10 And let them first be tested; then, if they prove themselves
blameless, let them serve as deacons.
1 Timothy 3:10
Deacons of Vision of Faith Community Church are men and women whose lives
demonstrate their willingness to live according to God's will. The collective
giftedness of these individuals help accomplish the purpose of the Deacon Ministry,
which is the meeting of the spiritual and physical needs of the congregation that
are not met by other ministries within the church.
The Deacon History
The first Deacons were chosen in the First Church (Acts 6:1-7). The distribution of
food became so involved that the ministers could not attend to it and devote the
needed time to prayer and preaching the Gospel. So, they asked the Church to pick
from among them seven men full of the Spirit and wisdom to care for these duties.
The biblical qualifications for a Deacon are described in 1 Timothy 3:8-13:
Worthy of respect, sincere, temperate
Making their living reputably
True to the Word of God
Not indulging in alcoholic beverages
Wives must be temperate, kind, non-malicious
The husband of one wife
A good father and disciplinarian
The word deacon means servant: The Deacon Ministry at Vision of Faith Community
Church acts as the arms and legs of the Pastor.
The Deacons are there to relieve the Pastor of any load that they are capable of
carrying. The wife of a Deacon complements his ministry as they strive to serve
God and the church together.
